PASMAE Southern Africa Sub-Regional Conference 2024

The Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) is a landing site for those traveling to Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown). There are no direct flights to Makhanda.

Once participants land from their local flights, the common means of transport to Makhanda is by road (shuttles, Uber, buses, rental cars).  Please find further details on transport from the airport to Makhanda below.

The distance from Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport to Rhodes University is about 130 km, and approximately two and half (1 1/2) hours drive, depending largely on traffic and road conditions.

Cost of transportation is not included in the conference registration fee.  Participants will have to pay for transportation to and from Makhanda.

Option Two – Uber

Take an Uber from Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport at an average cost of R1000-R1700, one way.

Option Three – Bus

Bus bookings can be made via Computicket. This will provide you the costs various bus companies: travel.computicket.com/travel/bus/booking

The average cost is approximately R350, one way. This will require you to take an Uber to the bus depot and arrange pick up from the bus station by your accommodation hosts

Option Four – Car Rental
