Travel and Accommodation

There are many ways to travel to Cape Coast, Ghana and many excellent accommodation options.

Flights and local transport

The Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana is a landing site for many international, regional and local airlines. No internal flights are available or needed from Accra to Cape Coast.  Once international participants land from their international flights in Accra, the common means of transport to Cape Coast is by bus.  We know from experience that some participants would want to arrive a couple of days earlier than the conference for various reasons or would want to navigate around on their own. For conference participants who opt for it however, organized airport pickup buses will be available to transport you to Cape Coast. Designated personnel who can be clearly identified by their tags and conference T-shirts will be there in person to meet conference participants. Once in Cape Coast, everything is in very close proximity to the University Campus which is the conference venue.  Please find further details on transport from the airport/Accra to Cape Coast below:

The distance from Kotoka International Airport to the University of Cape Coast is about 40 km, and approximately two and half (2 1/2) hours’ drive, depending largely on traffic and road conditions.

In order to ease the stress involved in traveling from the Airport to Cape Coast, the LOC will make transportation arrangements for Airport pick-ups and drop-offs. Queries regarding transport details can be made to [email protected]

The conference organizers will meet participants at the airport exit or just outside the restricted area. Cost of transportation is not included in the registration fee.  Participants will have to pay for transportation to and from Cape Coast.

Participants who arrive in the morning, afternoon and early evening will be picked to Cape Coast to check into their hotels or guest houses. Participants arriving in the late evening will be required to stay overnight in Accra and travel to Cape Coast the next morning.  Travelling to Cape Coast will be by either a bus, van or salon car.

Fares are as follows:

  1. Long luxury bus (VIP) – There are two categories here: 31 seater and 51 seater.  The cost per person will be about GHS150 and GHS 125 respectively (approx. $15 and $12.5).
  • Ford or Urvan Bus – 13 seater. The cost per person will be about GHS120 (approx. $12)
  • Saloon car – 4 seater.  The cost per person will be about GHS 300 (approx. $30)

The conference organizing committee strongly recommends that participants take advantage of shuttle services organized for the conference

If you opt for the Conference transport arrangement and your flight is delayed, you will need to contact the conference secretariat via email ([email protected])  to provide updated arrival information.
